Lars Boom may be willing to leave the financially stricken Belkin team in favour of a move to British team Sky.

Belkin stops after this season as title sponsor of the cycling team and it remains to be seen whether the team management will find a new sponsor. "My agent is looking around," said Boom. "A new adventure with another team can be very good for me. But you can not just take that decision. I'm thinking about it now." 

The name of Boom was also last year linked to the team of Tour winner Chris Froome. According cycling journalist Raymond Kerckhoffs from De Telegraaf, Team Sky would be a good choice for Boom. 

"He's at the point in his career that he has to make important decisions," said Kerckhoffs. "Sky now has no good rider for the classics. Their innovative approach to cycling would sometimes work refreshing for Lars. So I would say go to Team Sky." 

The departure of Belkin as the main sponsor came as a big surprise. The U.S. company was found to have a clause that allowed them to pull their sponsorship after one year rather than the allotted four in the original deal. Boom criticizes the management of the Belkin team as they never told their riders anything. "If you know that then we can take it into account. But we knew nothing. They can’t keep pretending to us.”

Boom will be in the Tour de France, especially riding in the service of his leaders Bauke Mollema and Laurens ten Dam. Except in the fifth stage on the cobblestones through northern France. Then Boom wants to go for his own chances. 

"Sep Vanmarcke and I should try to go for the win. In that ride and I'll go attack. Other guys must remain in our captains."
