According to Belgian paper De Tijd, Tom Boonen is close to settling his case for tax evasion. The case has been going on for around six years.
De Tijd believes that Boonen will pay around 60% of what he is accused of not paying the Belgian government.
The court in Kortrijk have told Sporza that while there have been “negotiations”, “It is too early. I can add that there were negotiations and that the prosecutor's office had a proposal made to reach an amicable settlement.”
"Today I cannot confirm whether the parties discussed [the issue]. Beware the session is a closed session, on February 26 we will know more. If we determine as prosecutor that the settlement is accepted, we will drop the criminal proceedings."
