Yesterday Tom Boonen participated in the Laps for Life car race on the Zolder circuit. He already knows that he wants to ride a championship when his cycling career is over: "That is certain. I just do not know what championship and what car.”
Boonen rode with Philippe Geubels and Jeroom for charity. For every two laps on the Zolder circuit, there were thirty euros for Laps for Life.
"Seven years ago I started motor racing," said Boonen. "I drive as often as I can. Of course it is more on in certain times than in others. "
Today he reached top speeds of 210 km/h.
"That is it," said Boonen. "The circuit in Zolder is not so fast."
It does not stop here. Boonen also want to do a real championship after his bike career which ends on April 7 after Paris-Roubaix.
"A championship is sure to come. I just do not know what race and what car. I keep all options open,” said Boonen.
But first, he has a short cycling season.
"The preparation is going very well," said Boonen. "Tomorrow we go on training camp with the team. Today was a last chance to relax. From tomorrow, it is again hard work.”
