Today's 14th stage of the Tour de France started from yesterday's finish destination Rodez. During the 178.5 kilometers to Mende two climbs of the second and two climbs of the fourth category had to be completed. Especially challenging was the final climb over 3 km with a 10% slope.
The race was marked by many breakaway groups. In the end Stephen Cummings (MTN Qubeka) succeeded with n spirited attack from the two leading French Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) and Romain Bardet (AG2R).
"The goal was of course to be in the group. We knew that there was a large possibility today that a group would decide the victory among themselves. Therefore we rode attentively from the beginning. In the first major group Bartosz [Huzarski] and Paul [Voss] managed to be represented. Unfortunately, the field responded and IAM closed the gap. Then new attacks followed. Again Bartosz and Paul tried everything. Unfortunately it didn't work out. Now we will try again in the next few days and continue to fight hard for a stage victory", Sports director Enrico Poitschke reported.
