Silvio Herklotz has signed a two-year contract with the German team BORA – ARGON 18 beginning 2016. The 21-year-old is regarded as a great talent for demanding stage races earning his reputation in recent years with numerous successes in the U23-category. These include prestigious results as winning the Tour Alsace, a second place at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the victory at the German championships with only 19 years.
With a height of 1.90 meters and weighing 68 kilograms, Herklotz brings in qualities for time trials and the mountains – both key conditions for a classification rider. With the signing of Silvio Herklotz, BORA – ARGON 18 continues its philosophy to sign German-speaking stage race riders, like Dominik Nerz (25 years), Patrick Konrad (23 years) and the current German champion Emanuel Buchmann (22 years) who both ride a convincing first professional season.
"We are delighted that Silvio makes the step to the pro level with us, despite offers from the WorldTour. Our team has shown that we are developing young riders extremely well by combining a demanding racing program with specific phases of recovery. We’ll also plan the first professional year for Silvio. He’ll have few but intense days of racing. Depending on the first months, he’ll get the freedom for own results in smaller tours after the spring", Ralph Denk, Team Manager of BORA – ARGON 18, comments the signing of Silvio Herklotz.
Silvio Herklotz, born on May 6, 1994 in Berlin, started with cycling at the age of nine years. After he pursued both road cycling and cyclo-cross since the youth, he now focuses completely on road cycling. Herklotz has been riding for the German Team Stölting since 2013.
