After his attack was neutralized yesterday at Tirreno-Adriatico, Paul Voss could establish himself with seven other riders in the lead group of today’s queen stage. The break-away riders dictated the day until the final climb and Paul Voss wasn’t reeled in by the favorite climbers until 10 kilometers to go.

Nairo Quintana (Movistar) won the stage with a big gap. Bauke Mollema (Trek) and Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) finished second and third. Jose Mendes had a better day and crossed the finish line with a chasing group in 33rd place.

“We planned to be in the break-away group today and Paul did a good job by doing so. For sure it wasn’t an easy day. Therefore it was even better and more important to be part of the lead. Paul rode a great race. After such a day in the lead, you don’t have the power left to keep up with the best on the final climb. Looking ahead to the upcoming weeks, Paul did some good efforts today. Now we hope that he is staying healthy until the important races in Belgium”, said Enrico Poitschke, Sport Director of BORA – ARGON 18, after the stage to the Bora website.

The penultimate stage gives the sprinters the chance to take the victory again. BORA – ARGON 18 will focus completely on Sam Bennett.

“It was important for Sam to stay within the time limit on the final climb today. It wasn’t that easy for him given the extreme weather, but Bartosz [Huzarski], Zak [Dempster] and Patrick [Konrad] supported him very well. Despite the circumstances, we hope that he’ll recover well now and that he’ll have the legs tomorrow to sprint”, Poitschke continues.
