Bora-Hansgrohe is ready for his first season in the WorldTour. After seven years, the German team has decided to make the step to the highest level and has strengthened its roster significantlu. Obviously, the stand-out signing is that of Peter Sagan who will spearhead of the team.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, manager Ralph Denk has unveiled how the deal came about.
"As an amateur I rode with Giovanni Lombardi, the current manager of Sagan. He knows me. In the summer, I met him and Peter for the first time and they made a very good impression. I do not see him as a star, but as a normal guy. We did not talk only about cycling and I believe that at this stage of his career, he needs an environment like ours. He liked the project .”
Denk outlined the team's goals for 2017.
"We are ambitious, we have 27 riders and do not want to focus only on the Tour where we will try to win the green jersey with Peter. We are aiming to win one of the five monument, to be in the top 5 in two of the grand tours, to be among the top six teams in the rankings. In Germany, the interest for cycling is returning but we want to be there for all 10 months of the season, not only in July. The Giro d’Italia is a fantastic race and we should line up Majka as a GC rider. Then we have Buchmann, perhaps the most interesting young German for grand tours. We are not only about Sagan but it is clear that it is a pleasure to have Peter with us.”
