Having already finished third in the race, Theo Bos has been speaking about the Scheldeprijs for a long time and the Belgian classic was a very big objective for the fast Dutchman. Despite great team support, however, he made several personal mistakes in the sprint that meant that he could only take 20th.

Theo Bos was the Belkin Pro Cycling TEAM’s main man in yesterday’s Scheldeprijs, but wasn’t able to compete for the win. Behind Marcel Kittel of team Giant-Shimano, who triumphed for the third year in a row, the Dutchman placed 20th in the sprint in Schoten. 

“I rode a bad final,” said Bos. “The guys did a good job, but in the final kilometres at crucial moments, I lost their wheel twice. I’d expected more of today. This is disappointing.” 

Bos is already looked ahead despite the setback.

“We have a training camp scheduled with the sprint train and I’m looking forward to that. After that, I will ride Rund um Köln. I hope to ride a good race there.” 

Sports Director Michiel Elijzen left the race disappointed with the result, but pleased how the race panned out. 

“It went like we wanted. Six men rode clear and even though it got exciting in the end, they were caught in time. Dennis van Winden chased the leaders for a long time and had a very good day. That’s nice for him as he’s having a difficult period, he’s not completely fit. Hopefully, this will give him some morale.” 

Lars Boom and Sep Vanmarcke collected some valuable hours on the bike today in the run up to Paris-Roubaix on Sunday.

“For both of them, this was a good and spirited training towards Sunday,” added Elijzen. “They had a fine day.”
