Not a lucky day for FDJ. Star sprinter Nacer Bouhanni will quit Etoile de Besseges. The same is also true for teammate Laurent Pichon.
Both riders was involved in a crash that happened during the final Mur de Laudun sprint in yesterday's stage 4. According to FDJ director Franck Pineau, Bouhanni suffered some bruise in his elbow, and the injury is not serious. The team, though, prefer not to take risks with its main sprinter, though. Bouhanni will not take part in the race's final stage, a 11km time trial.
Pichon suffered facial injuries, and was taken to local hospital. He required numerous stitches, and also will abandon the race. Luckily the scan showed no fracture.
