Nacer Bouhanni was the big favourite in today's stage of the Vuelta a Espana but the Frenchman was involved in the big crash in the end. Luckily he escaped any major injuries.
With two sprint wins, Nacer Bouhanni was intent on continuing his momentum in today's stage of the Vuelta a Espana. His FDJ team helped control the stage all day to set up their fast captain for another win but it was not to be in the end.
Having been slightly out of position, both Bouhanni and his lead-out man Geoffrey Soupe hit the deck when a big crash happened in the finale. Luckily both have escaped serious injuries, with Bouhanni just suffering from a sore left elbow.
“Nacer [Bouhanni] was on my wheel," Soupe said. "We were looking for the 500m to go mark to launch our sprint when Pelucchi and Guardini crashed into each other. It was impossible to avoid them and we also crashed. It’s a pity because the team had worked all day for that sprint. Fortunately, there’s no consequence for Nacer nor myself.”
