FDJ manager Marc Madiot decided to severely punish Nacer Bouhanni after the latter shared his dissatisfaction at racing with the French squad with a public in an interview recently published by L’Equipe.
After Bouhanni had been selected to become a part of the French national team for upcoming World Championships, FDJ first agreed to change his initial race schedule and let him out of the Vuelta a Espana, allowing him to ride Tour du Doubs and GP d’Isbergues as a build-up instead.
The 24-year old sprinter abandoned the Spanish Grand Tour on 14 stage, but was excluded from FDJ rosters for upcoming French races as a consequence of an interview which has been published last Saturday.
Bouhanni has never hidded his disappointment after his current squad decided to back their younger sprinter Arnaud Demare in Milano-Sanremo, spring classics campaign and Tour de France, what effected with his decision to join Cofidis for 2015 season. All controversial issues were brought up once again in L’Equipe interview, what apparently enraged the FDJ manager.
“I wasn’t happy. I told him that from the moment he wasn’t happy on the team, I wouldn’t pick him for races any more and his place would be taken by somebody who was happy,” Madiot told L’Équipe on Thursday.
Even though the French national team coach Bernard Bourreau tried to convince Madiot to change his decision and let Bouhanni race in FDJ outfit, the latter remained adamant.
“I wanted to race the Tour du Doubs and Isbergues but they squeezed me out,” Bouhanni told L’Équipe. “I won’t be doing Paris-Tours either. For me, it’s finished after the Worlds.”
