Having finished second in the 2011 edition of the race, Sylvain Chavanel took to the start of today's Tour of Flanders as one of the outsiders but there was no glory for the strong Frenchman. Breathing problems hampered his race while a stomach flu and crashes took out most of his teammates on a very bad day for IAM.
