Tinkoff-Saxo missed out on a result in the final kilometer of GP Québec, as the undulating parcours had taken its toll on team sprinter Matti Breschel. Sean Yates, team sports director, however notes that the squad showed strength while the focus now shifts towards Sunday’s action in Montréal.
After the 201.6km GP Québec with close to 3,000 altitude meters, Sean Yates comments about the race, which was ultimately won by Rigoberto Uran in a last kilometer breakaway:
“We didn’t manage to get the result we were looking for. However, there’s a very thin line between success and failure, since it only takes one rider to finish in the top 5 or 10 to create the impression of a good race. But our squad worked very well together and rode a good race. Matti Breschel was well positioned but lacked the final punch to make the final sprint. We had a lot of climbs and altitude meters in the race and that took its toll on Matti”, says Sean Yates and adds:
“Despite the lack of a top result, I saw that our group of riders are in shape and motivated. Roman Kreuziger made a move with a small group in the final lap but they were caught. The climbs that we face on Sunday’s race in Montréal suit him better as they are longer and require a more sustained effort. That’s our priority now, today’s result obviously wasn’t good enough for a team of our stature and we will turn our attention towards GP Montréal”.
Tinkoff-Saxo’s best-placed rider was Matti Breschel in 43th position.
