Yesterday Matti Breschel took a record-breaking sixth stage win in the Tour of Denmark, and today he added to his tally as he won Friday’s stage to also claim the yellow jersey. Breschel took the stage win on the uphill finish on Kiddesvej as he outsprinted Borgiorno (Bardiani Valvole) and Kelderman (Belkin).
“Things are really going well for me for the time being,” Breschel told Cyclingquotes.com. “The team was awesome today. They all supported me in a brilliant fashion. The hot weather conditions and the many spectators on the final hill really made it a very tough day. It might, in fact, have been the toughest day I’ve ever experienced in the Tour of Denmark.”
While Breschel took over the leader’s jersey, his teammate Manuele Boaro cracked completely and Michael Mørkøv crossed the finishing line more than a minute behind Breschel.
“I wouldn’t write off Michael completely,” Breschel added when Cyclingquotes asked him to evaluate the events of the day. “The GC is still very tight going into the stage preceding the time trial tomorrow. I’ll try to relax prior to the time trial and not let myself be stressed.”
