Bretagne had a chance to mix it up with the WorldTour teams in yesterday's GP Plouay but left the race empty-handed. Arnaud Gerard was hugely disappointed as the in-form Frenchman had the legs to join the successful move in the finale.
Bretagne lined up for their fourth WorldTour race of the season on home soil when they brought most of their A team to yesterday's GP Plouay. The team played a prominent role throughout the race but came away from the race with no result.
Jean-Marc Bideau was part of the early breakaway while Armindo Fonseca tried to join the late attacks in the finale. When the decisive move went away inside the final 5km, the team was looking to an in-form Arnaud Gerard who has twice finished 6th in the race and was with the best at the top of the final climb.
"I had the legs to be in the front group," he said. "When I look at the results, it would definitely have been hard to beat Chavanel but there was room for a beautiful result."
Behind the front septet, Roman Feillu mixed it up in the bunch sprint for 8th but got boxed in and rolled across the line in 38th.
"But it was only a sprint for 8th," he said. "I didn't take the same risks as I would have done in a sprint for the win."
