In addition to that of that of French champion Steven Tronet, another distinctive jersey will be included in the ranks of the Fortuneo-Vital Concept team which is currently known as Bretagne-Séché Environnement. Danish champion Chris Anker Sørensen, 31, has signed for one year with the formation led by Emmanuel Hubert.
Professional since 2007, Sørensen is recognized at the highest international level for his climbing skills, his proven qualities as a teammate for the Schleck brothers until 2010 and late for Alberto Contador and for his aggressive riding style. He is also consistent in grand tours: 14th in the 2012 Tour de France, 12th in the 2011 Vuelta, winner of the Terminillo stage in the 2010 Giro, his most prestigious success.
He got a lot of attention in 2012 when he finished near the front in a Pyrenean stage where he had cut two fingers of the left hand. That year, his constant presence at the front of the race earned him the supercombativity title. Since 2007, he has been with the same team: CSC and Saxo Bank which is now Tinkoff-Saxo.
"I had some great years with the biggest names, the Schleck brothers and Alberto (Contador), but the operation of a big World Tour team doesn't really suit me," Sørensen said. "In the races, we are much more in control than taking the initiative, and the environment has become quite impersonal. Now, at 31, I want to regain my taste of being offensive and of a family atmosphere. I really watched the Bretagne-Séché Environnement team in recent months and it seems to me that this is a team that suits me. The riders are constantly on the offensive, they try to create favorable situations, and they seem very happy and united off the bike. I also know that my first mission will be to bring my experience of grand Tours to Eduardo Sepulveda. It is a pleasure to know his talent, I noticed him in the mountains. I will be happy to help him to flourish at the highest level."
"To welcome one of the most popular teammates of Alberto Contador is not insignificant," manager Emanuel Hubert said. "This is again a sign that we are growing, especially since Chris Anker himself has shown great interest in our team in recent months. He has great experience in the grand tours and will be responsible for supporting Eduardo Sepulveda as far as possible in the mountains. He can also play his card in other races, and I know that attacking is dear to his heart. We are very proud of this recruitment and pleased to welcome Chris Anker."
