In April 2017, Ian Drake will leave his position as director of the British Cycling Federation. In a statement he emphasizes that his departure has nothing to do with the recent controversy.
British Cycling has been discredited by the controversy surrounding Bradley Wiggins. Last month, it became clear that the Olympic champion received Therapeutic Use Exemptions to use a large dose of long-acting intramuscular corticosteroids in the run-up to the Tour de France in 2011 and 2012 (which he won) and the 2013 Giro.
A little later, British Cycling was discredited after a story appeared about a package which was delivered to the Sky bus during the 2011 Critérium du Dauphiné.
"It was a difficult year, but my choice is independent of all the charges. It's just the right time," Drake wrote in the statement.
