British Cycling has unveiled the routes for the next British National Road Championships. The event will take place in Stockton-on-Tees and will begin on Thursday June 23rd with the individual time trial. The road race will be contested on Sunday June 26th. Current national champions Lizzie Armitstead (Boels-Dolmans) and Pete Kennaugh (Team Sky) are expected to defend their titles.
"We are delighted to be able to announce the routes for this year's national road championships in Stockton. Lincoln's iconic course last year resulted in a great race for both the athletes and fans," British Cycling's director of cycle sport and membership, Jonny Clay said according to Cyclingnews. "We've worked closely with Stockton Borough Council to deliver a testing but fast course which incorporates a mix of punchy climbs and rolling roads. I think we can expect to see some exciting racing that the National Championships is now well known for."
The time trial specialists will compete on an 11,6 km circuit. The men will complete four laps and the women and U23 categories will each complete three. The road races will start in the centre of Stockton. The riders will complete six laps (women and U23) and 12 laps (men) of a 13,4 km circuit.
