On June 18, 2017, the Belgian city of Brugge will host a new 1.1 race on the calendar. In recent years, the Tour of Flanders has started in Brugge but the organizers have decided to move the start to Antwerp. Instead, the Markt in the city is the starting point of the new race.
The city of Brugge and organizer Golazo join forces for this new race. After the start in Brugge, it goes through "the most beautiful places of the city and county" and then returns to the city. The finish is in the historic center.
"The loss of De Ronde was bad for Brugge but much worse for the many West Flemish villages," said Mayor Renaat Landuyt in Het Nieuwsblad .
There is an agreement for at least five years.
"We start as a UCI 1.1 race, but it is our ambition to move up to the World Tour level," Christophe Impens from Golazo said.
A name for the race has not been disclosed yet.
