The organizers of the Volta a Catalunya have unveiled a new stage of the 2017 edition of the race. The fifth stage on Friday, March 24 will be a crucial day in the race. The riders will travel 182km to reach the top of Lo Port, a climb of more than 10 kilometers at an average gradient of 9.7% and with a tough final including 15% ramps.
The climb overlooking the Ebro Delta will make its return to the race more than 25 years after the last visit. Colombians won here in both 1985 and 1991 with the respective successes of Alirio Chizabas and Lucho Herrera. Defending champion Nairo Quintana is a strong candidate to continue that tradition.
Tortosa will host the start of the sixth stage.
