BMC Racing Team's Marcus Burghardt moved up to fourth overall Tuesday at the Tour de Pologne by getting in the day's breakaway and earning precious bonus time.
For the second straight day, Burghardt was part of an early attack. His six-man escape group splintered in the final 60 kilometers, but not before the past Tour de France stage winner earned three bonus seconds in two intermediate sprints.
Burghardt is now 10 seconds behind Stage 1 winner Marcel Kittel (Team Giant-Alpecin), who finished seventh and kept the overall lead.
Tuesday's race ended with a second straight bunch sprint, but this time without incident.
Monday's finishing sprint was marred by a major crash that saw all eight riders from the BMC Racing Team involved. All eight were able to start on Tuesday and all finished the 166-kilometer race that was won by Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling), who also won on Monday.
