Caja Rural - Seguros RGA is eagerly looking forward to the American one-day race, Philadelphia International Cycling Classic, which takes place on Sunday, the 5th of June.

Racing on Fuji Bikes, this is an important event for the Spanish team as Fuji Bikes’ International Headquarters are located in Philadelphia. In 2015, Caja Rural - Seguros RGA had a fantastic race with Carlos Barbero taking the win after a well-timed sprint in the uphill finish.

This year’s edition of Philadelphia International Cycling Classic consists of nine undulating laps of 19.8 km, adding up to a total of 178.2 km in the saddle. The final 800 meters are the hardest part of the circuit by far. With an average gradient of 8 % and a staggering maximum gradient of 17 %, The Wall on Lyceum Ave will have a decisive impact in the fight for the podium.

In addition to Barbero, who returns to racing after breaking his collarbone in Tour of Turkey at end of April, Caja Rural - Seguros RGA lines up with the following riders: Diego Rubio, Héctor Sáez, Miguel Ángel Benito, Fabricio Ferrari, Eduard Prades and Jonathan Lastra.

Sports director José Miguel Fernández said: “We are very excited to be back in the US. Aiming to repeat last year’s victory is an extra motivation for us in one of our most important races this season. This year, we can’t count on the surprise factor anymore. It will be a difficult race and our rivals won’t make it easy for us. However, we come here with a strong team and we are ready to fight for glory until the end”.

Carlos Barbero said: “I’m very eager to return to racing with the team after being out for one and a half months, which feels like a very long time. Finally, I can do what I love to do again. Step by step, I aim to return to the level I had in my last races”.

Manager of Sponsorship & International Marketing at Fuji Bikes Milay Galvez added::“We are really excited to have the team back in Philadelphia. Fuji Bikes and Oval Concepts International Headquarters are located here. The Philadelphia International Cycling Classic is our home race. We are very much looking forward to having Caja Rural - Seguros RGA back in the US and racing in the most important one-day race in the Americas. Last year’s victory was very important for us and it was really special to see the team deliver a perfect race and an amazing win. We are hoping for a repeat on Sunday”.
