Caja Rural is trying to keep its core of riders for the 2016 season. At the moment, they have signed 14 riders of a roster that is expected to count 20 riders at the start of the season.
The Spanish team has retained much of its current roster. The latest contract extensions are Eduard Prades, Ángel Madrazo and Ricardo Vilela as has been confirmed to BiciCiclismo. They can be added to Pello Bilbao, Carlos Barbero, Hugh Carthy, and Hector Miguel Angel Benito Saez who all have existing contracts, to Lluis Mas and Jose Gonçalves who have also renewed, and to the four additions, Alberto Gallego (Radio Popular), Diego Rubio (Efapel), Domingo Gonçalves (Efapel) and Jonathan Lastra (Caja Rural-RGA amateur).
The team is working on contract extensions for hree riders, David Arroyo, 12th in the Vuelta a Espana, Fabrizio Ferrari, a rider valued by team managers, and youngster Antonio Molina. In its commitment to the youth and young riders, it is logical to promote Jaime Rosón, Spanish U23 champion and winner of the Memorial Valenciaga, to the professional team.
Fernando Grijalba and Heinier Parra are set to leave, as are Amets Txurruka and Omar Fraile who have signed with Orica-GreenEdge and MTN-Qhubeka (Team Dimension Data in 2016), respectively.
The team follows closely the evolution of three riders who have been injured much of the season, Francesco Lasca, Javier Aramendía and Sergio Pardilla. The Italian, who was injured in the hip, has not competed since the Vuelta a Andalusia. Aramendía, meanwhile, did not debut until June after undergoing surgery on his left leg, but at least ended the season in the saddle. Pardilla has finally begun the last phase of his rehabilitation after he suffered a serious crash in the Tour of the Basque Country in April.
Despite the crashes and injuries that have affected it, the team has taken 16 wins this season with eight different riders, between mid-April and early August, It lacked only the icing on the cake: a stage win in the Vuelta where Pello Bilbao and Jose Goncalves both finished second. They finished sixth in the team standings and Omar Fraile won the mountains classification.
Caja Rural will end its season in the Italian classics Coppa Sabatini, Giro d'Emilia and GP Beghelli.
