Caja Rural - Seguros RGA is excited to announce Chris Butler as the team’s fifth new signing for next year. The 28-year-old American climber has signed a two-year contract with the Spanish team.
Butler is the first-ever American rider to wear the green colors of Caja Rural - Seguros RGA. Together with its bike sponsor Fuji Bikes, the team is eager to take on more races on the US calendar in the coming years. As a knowledgeable rider of the American races, and with prior World Tour experience with BMC Racing Team, Butler not only brings firepower in the mountains, but also fits perfectly into the team’s strategy for 2017.
Butler said:
“I'm very excited to take this step with Caja Rural - Seguros RGA and pay back everyone who has invested in my career. Spanish is my strongest second language and I really hope to continue to improve that. I'm also familiar with Fuji Bikes and I know the bike plays an important role in the team's success. Personally, I'm going to stay very focused on continuing to improve and live up to the expectations that so many believe I can accomplish in some of the biggest races in the world. I really want to integrate with the team on and off the bike. There are a lot of proven winners on this team and I think that we will have someone to go for that role in every race. Therefore, I want to be super reliable year round to help my teammates”.
This year, Butler has been racing for Cycling Academy Team. He won the queen stage and the KOM jersey in Tour de Hongrie and placed 12th overall in the Canadian stage race Tour de Beauce. Furthermore, Butler also won the American race Mount Evans Hill Climb, where the riders climb over 2000 meters in just 44.1 km on the highest paved road in the US.
