2016 will be the final professional season for Fabian Cancellara who has got extra motivation from today's announcement that his Trek team has added Sefafredo as a new co-sponsor.

"My 2016 will not be marked by so many races, but by a single ideal stage race where I want to do well, hurt my opponents and want to win. And since I am just missing the maglia rosa from my wall, I'll do the Giro d'Italia with the goal to conquer it. But I want to be riding strongly in Italy, with Strade Bianche and Sanremo also on my calendar.

"I have also done well in Italy, you know. I won the world title in Treviso in 1998 as a junior, here outside the headquarters of Segafredo. Then I rode for Fassa Bortolo, I have a strong bond with Mapei and with Dr. Squinzi. There could be no better way to close the book in my career in a perfect way. And I think it's the right choice to retire when I am at the top although I still have a great desire to do well. But you have to make a point and I will retire at the end of 2016.

"I have raced in Veneto as a boy. I was coached by [Trek manager] Luca Guercilena at Mapei and with this sponsorship we all have a triple motivation to tackle this season. It looks like everything in my career is coming full circle.

Fellow Trek captain Bauke Mollema said.

"The team has been strengthened, and I am growing with the arrive of this great new sponsor. We will all be even more motivated, but above all we will have a delicious coffee drink on the bus.

Finally, sprinter Giacomo Nizzolo revealed his thoughts about the new sponsor. He is one of the Italian riders who will benefit from the stronger Italian identity.

"We'll try to turn the many second places into wins and maybe give the red jersey (the points jersey at the Giro d'Italia, ed.) to my friends at Segafredo. I was pleasantly surprised by the expertise and knowledge of our sport that I have seen from company's executives. Ut shows that they have invested in our sport not only for pleasure but for conscience and knowledge."
