As in was reported by La Gazetta dello Sport yesterday, Fabian Cancellara has narrowly missed a serious accident with a car while he hit the road for a training ride at the outskirts of his home-town, Bern, in Switzerland.
An accident has sent the Swiss classics star to the tarmac with minor scrapes and bruises, after he was cut off by a car. Luckily it didn’t affected Cancellara’s participation at this week’s Trek Factory Racing camp held in Mallorca, event though his training was “backed off a bit” as a consequence of an incident.
"[It is] nothing to worry about," his team manager Luca Guercilena told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We've backed off his training a bit to work on his base."
While participating in the highly coveted Trek Factory Racing media day and presentation after their most recent transformation, Cancellara was obviously asked about his anticipated clash with Omega Pharma-Quick Step Tom Boonen during spring classics, as the riders were taking turns last two years, being unable to face each other in direct encounter due to their crashes.
"That's what makes racing special: nothing is predictable," Cancellara said on Friday.
"I respect [Boonen] a lot. Of course I didn’t want to see him on the ground but I was on the ground the year before. Sport is not predictable."
