In the past Fabian Cancellara has always started his season in the Middle East. This year he may ride earlier than usual as he plans to do a few races in Mallorca at the end of the month.
In 2015, Fabian Cancellara will not make the same mistake of focusing entirely on the Worlds in the second part of the season. “I am going to focus on more races and will try to be in front right from the beginning,” he said in a conference call, according to radsport-news.com.
Furthermore, Cancellara admitted to have been “too soft” at the Vuelta. “If I go there again this year, I will be more active. I held too much back and wanted to save everything for the worlds,” said Cancellara who suffered from cramps in the final part of the Worlds road race.
While the schedule for the Worlds preparation has not been finalized, Cancellara will follow a well-known program in the first half. Cancellara may already start his season at the end of the month at the Mallorca Challenge as his team will already be on the Balearic Island for a training camp. “Maybe I will do one or two races there,” the 33-year-old said. Then he will do the Tours of Qatar and Oman and Tirreno-Adriatico to prepare for the classics.
“Of course I want to win races. I have ambitions but I won’t say that I will win Milan-Sanremo, the Tour of Flanders or Paris-Roubaix. Too much can change for me to say that,” Cancellara said.
Cancellara has also not changed his stance on the Hour Record. “I wanted the record but due to the rule change by the UCI, I have lost the motivation. It’s god for cycling that so many riders try to break the record but I will focus on other things,” Cancellara said. “When Wiggins has set a record, it will stand for a long time,” he added as an extra reason for his decision to abandon his attempt.
