In the absence of defending champion Peter Sagan, Marek Canecky (Amplatz) claimed a maiden Slovakian time trial title. He was 1.30 faster than Maros Kovac (Dukla Banska) and 2.28 better than Roman Bronis (CK Pribram).

For the first time since 2011, there was not a single WorldTour rider in attendance at the Slovakian TT Championships and this allowed the continental riders to battle it out for gold. Despite going into the race with no previous podiums on his palmares Marek Canecky came out on top on the 50km course in Hodonin.

Last year Peter Sagan broke Peter Velits' string of three victories in a row but the pros all skipped this year's event. Hence, Canecky's time of 1.12.03 was enough to take the title. He was 1.30 faster than Maros Kovac who finished on the podium for the fourth year in a row while third place gave Roman Bronis his second medal in the event.

The race was held in conjunction with the Czech Championships which was won by Leopold König. Canecky's time would only have been good enough for fifth in the championships of the neighbouring country.

Attention now turns to the road race where Sagan will be back to defend his title.
