Janier Acevedo won’t be at the start of the Tour de San Luis anyway. The Colombian talent has been suffering from a knee injury lately, but hasn’t been able to recover fully from it. This means that he will be replaced with another rider from the Cannondale-Garmin team.
And it will be the Norwegian Kristoffer Skjerping, who will be going to it the Argentinian roads fairly soon. The team hoped for a good spot in the overall GC, they have now changed their focus towards winning a stage in the race.
“Our team will always go out to win,” said Bingen Fernández, Cannondale-Garmin’s SD according to Cyclingnews. “But the Tour de San Luis is unpredictable. We do not know if our riders and rivals are on a really good level right now.”
But even though one of their strongest cards will be missing in San Luis from the 19th till the 25th of January, the team is going there with a strong team including Joe Dombrowski and Tom Danielson. Dombrowski is upcoming in the pro peloton and might be able to perform well in the race.
The experienced Tom Danielson will bring load of routine to the team. The team’s six-man roster will also include Nathan Brown, Ben King and Ted King.
“It will be the race itself which decides who our leader will be,” Fernández said. “Nairo [Quinatna] and the Argentinian cyclists, as they ride their home event, are tough rivals for the rest of the peloton.”
