February 5th through February 9th mark Cannondale Pro Cycling’s second and last Australian event of the season. Following the Tour Down Under, the Green Machine will take on the five stages of the Herald Sun Tour.
Six riders will be competing in the event – Australian Cameron Wurf, Kiwi George Bennett, Canadian Guillame Boivin, Slovenian Matej Mohoric, Austrian Matthias Krizek, and Italian Alberto Bettiol. All the team members have already ridden the Australian terrain at the Tour Down Under.
“We’re facing this race differently compared to the Tour Down Under. We’ll ride Herald Sun with a more positive settling-in-period in the legs,” said Directeur Sportif Biagio Conte, who is leading the team in Australia. “Now that we’ve been in the country for an extended period of time, the team has had a chance to train strategically and acclimate to the Australian heat. I expect to see a strong overall team performance.
“With our team set up, we can be competitive with Wurf and Bennett on the hilly routes, as well as play our chances in a massive sprint with Boivin,” Conte added. “Our young riders just need to harness their strengths. We don’t plan to pressure them into results. We hope they just do their best.”
The Jayco Herald Sun Tour starts on Wednesday with a prologue and ends on Sunday with the queen stage up the Arthur's Seat climb.
