The Spring Classics season will come to a close on Sunday, April 27. After the grueling cobbles' Classics, the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallone, all the eyes will be on the UCI World Tour's oldest cycling race, the Liege-Bastogne-Liege. The 263 km race, part of the Ardennes Classics series, will celebrate its 100th edition this year.
For most of the Cannondale Pro Cycling team, this will be their first time on the roads of Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Eight Green Machine riders participating in Liege- Bastogne-Liege have already competed in the first two Ardennes' events - Italians Marco Marcato, Alessandro De Marchi, Daniele Ratto, Davide Villella and Alberto Bettiol, Slovenian Matej Mohoric, Jean-Marc Marino of France, and Michel Koch of Germany.
"Liege-Bastogne-Liege is the hardest race of the Ardennes Classics and the one with the longest list of contenders," said team director Alberto Volpi. "Today we will do recon on the final 70 km of the race to focus on the key parts of the race. We have a team full of young riders and it's never easy to face such a hard race. We also know that we have to play a different role during the race compared to the teams favorited to seek the podium win, but we need to be courageous and take a risk for a good result."
Cannondale’s roster for LBL:
Marco Marcato, Alessandro De Marchi, Daniele Ratto, Davide Villella, Alberto Bettiol, Matej Mohoric, Jean-Marc Marino and Michel Koch.
