Although not exactly a big name signing, Cannondale sees Jean-Marc Marino as the final piece of puzzle for its 2014 roster. The Italian-based team officially announces its signature of the French rider today.
Jean-Marc Marino, a 30-year-old climber, was a rider of the Sojasun team before the French team ceased to exist. A solid domestique, Marino completed two Tour de France(2012 and 2013), and although he didn't have any significant results for himself, the French rider will use his skills to help the leaders in Cannondale team. For Marino himself, to earn a spot in a World Tour squad is also a cannot-miss opportunity, especially considering the bad financial situation in cycling.
"I'm really excited to start this new experience with Cannondale Pro Cycling," said Marino. "I'm grateful to the team for offering me this opportunity. Since the folding of Sojasun, I've been waiting for the chance to compete at the highest level of cycling. Cannondale Pro Cycling is great team, with strong leaders and promising talents. I'll be one of the oldest riders of the group, but I plan to share my knowledge of the sport with the rest of the team."
Cannondale manager, Roberto Amadio, also values Marino's veteran presence, "Our 2014 squad has many young riders. We wanted to complete the roster adding a member able to ensure know-how and team spirit. Marino has the right characteristics for our team: passion for cycling, devotion to duty and willingness to do well."
Marino will debut for the Italian team in Roma Maxima, in March.
