A report by Denmark’s anti-doping agency published a report after a strong investigation about doping. In this 97-page document, many informations into doping in Danish cycling between 1998 and 2015 including some informations about the CSC team.
The report also quoted an anonymous source saying Riis urged 2008 Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre to use doping that year, adding: "The others are using it. We know for sure that Discovery are using it."
Speaking to Cyclingnews website, Sastre denied any knowledge of doping going on during his time at the CSC team.
"I was aware of what I did and what I do, but I was not aware of what others were doing," Sastre said. "Honestly, I didn't talk about anything like that with my teammates. Never."
The Spanish rider explained also his departure of the team: "He asked me why and I said 'I don’t want to have any problems with anyone in the team. The Schleck brothers are young riders and you have confidence in them and I don't want to be trouble for anyone,'" Sastre explained to Cyclingnews. "The Schleck brothers were coming through as new talent and I was near the end of my career. I had the possibility of starting with a new project, the Cervelo Test Team, and that is why I left."
