Italian rider Giampaolo Caruso spoke a few days ago about his scaphoid fracture of the left hand suffered in the second stage of the Giro d'Italia in the Irish city of Belfast.
Dr. Fabrizio Orlandi, in the House of Cura San Giovanni, Milan, carried out the operation and the Team Katusha rider has come a few hours later on his own feet.
"It went perfect, as planned. I have a screw placed in it, to be more sure it heals well and on Monday I have to re-do my first treatment," says Caruso.
The rider from Syracuse hopes to soon be able to ride a bike, to try to return to competition as soon as possible. “In a week I hope to ride a bike, use rollers and start making steps to gradually hit the road," says Caruso.
On his comeback in competition, "Everything depends on my recovery and when the team manager deems appropriate. I will do everything possible to be prepared and ready for when the team needs me." Caruso says.
