CAS has dismissed Roman Kreuziger's appeal against the decision by the UCI to provisionally suspend him for irregular blood values. The Czech won't be at the start of the Vuelta a Espana on Saturday.

CAS has decided to uphold the UCI's provisional suspension of Roman Kreuziger for irregular blood values. The Czech sought to overturn the suspension in order to be able to compete in the 2014 Tour of Spain and possibly in the UCI World Road Championships.

Kreuziger's Tinkoff-Saxo team put him on inactive status a few weeks before the Tour de France when news broke that UCI was about to open proceedings against him for irregularities in his biological passport stemming from his time at Astana. As a consquence, he missed the French grand tour but when UCI gave no further information, Tinkoff-Saxo planned to line him up at the Tour de Pologne and the Vuelta a Espana.

Having learnt about those intentions, the UCI issued a provisional suspension that Kreuziger tried to overturn by appealing to CAS. Today the court has decided to dismiss that appeal which means that he will remain provisionally suspended pending a decision on his alleged anti-doping rule violation. The full award with the grounds will be issued in a few weeks.

Yesterday Tinkoff-Saxo announed the first 8 riders on their Vuelta roster but kept a spot open for Kreuziger in case his appeal was successful. With the Czech not out of the running for final spot, the team is expected to finalize its roster later today.
