Like other Spanish regions have done in the past, Catalonia has expressed the wish to have its own professional team. The Catalan Cycling Federation has proposed the idea to the Secretary General of Sport in the region.
The plan is an ambitious project as the idea is to have the team on the road already in2018 at the professional continental level. According Ciclo21, the various parties have agreed to start the search for partners soon.
In the past, the Basque Country has had Euskaltel-Euskadi and Andalucia and Comunidad Valenciana have also had teams at lower levels. The hops is that the will bring many of the Catalan riders together. Carbonell (Inteja), Cassenh (Massi), De la Cruz (Quick Step), Airan Fernandez (Matrix), Gines (D'Amico-Botecchia), Guerrero (D'Amico-Botecchia), Losada (Katusha), Lozano ( Novo Nordisk), Moreno (Raleigh), Pedrero (Movistar), Benjamín Prades (Team Ukyo), Eduard Prades (Caja Rural), Joaquim Rodriguez (Bahrain-Merida), Simon (Funvic), Solé (Burgos-BH), Soler (Movistar), Vilanova (Massi) and Zurita (Vorarlberg) are the 18 riders from the region with a professional contract. The project is still in its infancy and everything remains uncertain.
