Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) was over the moon after clinching his fifth stage victory at this year’s Giro d’Italia as the race finished today:

“I’m very happy with my stage win and with this maglia rossa, which was clearly a top priority for me. Once again my teammates did a fantastic job today – I can really rely on this group of outstanding riders. It wan’t easy to go past Sacha Modolo (Bardiani Valvole – CSF Inox) who did a fantastic sprint, but I’m at the top of my game at present and I was able to demonstrate it once again. And after cresting all the mountain summits I couldn’t fancy losing here at Brescia.”
