Mark Cavendish has told the BBC that he is so desperate for an Olympic medal that he is considering riding the Olympic Games Road Race as well as the track events to try and get an elusive medal.

The road race course seems to suit climbers and puncheurs rather than sprinters like the Brit, evidenced by the fact that Chris Froome, Alejandro Valverde, Nairo Quintana and Vincnezo Nibali have all targeted the race next summer.

“If I leave the door open to ride the road race, the option’s always there. It’s like that,” he told the BBC. However, he did admit that he has a “better chance of riding the track than the road race.”

Cavendish is looking to ride the Omnium event on the track, but doesn’t just face competition to medal the race, but to just make the team as Ed Clancy also wants to race and Team GB only het one entrant.
