Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) won the final stage of the Tour of Denmark, going round Bryan Coquard (Europcar) in the finishing straight in the traditional bunch sprint in Frederiksberg.
At first sight Cavendish appeared to be boxed in as the dash for the line began and he had to make up significant ground in the closing metres to defeat Coquard and Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp) and claim his 16th victory of the season.
Wilco Kelderman (Belkin) enjoyed a tranquil day in the yellow jersey and celebrated the biggest win of his career at the end of the day. Kelderman took possession of the overall lead in Saturday evening’s short time trial and the Dutch youngster effectively protected his 6-second lead over Lars Bak (Lotto Belisol) to close the win. Matt Breschel (Saxo-Tinkoff) finished in third place overall.
