After being forced out of Six Day events by the Omega Pharma – Quick Step manager Patrick Lefevere last year, Mark Cavendish will feature in arguably most renowned of winter track events this November in Gent, the organizers confirmed. British sprinter will team up with his fellow team mate and five time winner of the Six Days of Gent, local hero Iljo Keisse.
Keisse and Cavendish will be one of the biggest favorites to take the spoils in the event held from November 18 to 23, but all stars of the Six Day circus are expected to line up at the Kuipke velodrome in Gent, including Jasper de Buyst, Kenny De Ketele, Leif Lampater, Otto Vergaerde, Gijs Van Hoecke, Moreno De Pauw, Jonas Rick Aert or current Madison world champions David Muntaner and Albert Torres of Spain.
Pairing with Cavendish, Keisse will try to win his home event for the sixth time in his career. In the same time, it will be an important part of a build up for the 2015 season for the Briton, who is still suffering consequences of his high speed crash at this year’s Tour de France opening stage.
Similar preparations served very well another Omega Pharma – Quick Step rider, Niki Terpstra, who teamed up with Keisse for Six Days of Rotterdam in the beginning of January, eventually winning the whole event. Track appearance was followed by taking a general classification in road season’s opening Tour of Qatar and the most successful spring campaign in Dutchman’s career with victories in Dwars door Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix.
