Davide Rebellin once again showed that age is nothing more than a simple number. He almost made it to the podium of the Coppa Sabatini today. The Italian veteran finished 4th on the finish line just outside the podium.
Maciej Paterski, team-mate of Davide Rebellin on the CCC Polsat Polkowice team, tried to attack with 10 kilometres to go, but Paterski couldn’t keep up the pace. He explains the reason why:
“It happened with 10km to go. I was hoping that few other guys will join me so we could form a group that could go all the way,” said Maciej Paterski afterwards to the CCC website. “I built 10 second lead but it was obvious that it will be not enough. Caja Rural and Lampre-Merida were leading the chase.”
He also explains that it was the plan to keep Rebellin ready at the line.
“Davide was supposed to be ready for the last kilometers. We did all we could to deliver him well and safely to the finish line.”
