Robinson Chalapud (Antioqueño Pride) won the Colombian road race championships by winning the final sprint from a small group.
The escape of the day was formed by 11 riders which were later whittled down to 10 and in the absence of 27 km, only three of them were left: Dayer Quintana (Movistar Team), Luis Martinez and Didier Sastoque. The three got along well, but on a small climb with 19km to go, Nairo Quintana's brother went solo. At that moment, there was a crash in the first chase group.
That group was almost two minutes behind with 18 kilometers to go. Quintana crested the summit the Alto de El Enano with just over a minute and on the descent, several riders took off in pursuit. One of them was Colombian TT champion Rigoberto Uran.
With less than 3km to go, Walter Vargas and Alexis Camacho caught Quintana but the peloton was not far behind. The trio was caught inside the final kilometre and so it came down to sprint. Unfortunately, a crash impacted the battle, with Nairo Quintana being one of the riders to go down.
From the remaining rider, Robinson Chalapud jumped clear. Uran who was on the wheel of the winner, had to settle for fourth behind Daniel Jaramillo and Jeffry Romero.
