The organizers of the Challenge Mallorca have announced several changes for the series of four one-day races. The traditional Trofeo Palma has been moved from the first to the last day while a new summit finish features on the second day
The organizers of the Challenge Mallorca which will be held from January 29 to February 1, have annonced their schedule:
Thursday, January 29: Trofeo Santanyi - Ses Salines-Campos (175km)
Friday January 30: Trofeo Andratx - Mirador d'Es Colomer (149km)
Saturday January 31: Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana (165km)
Sunday February 1 : Trofeo Palma Playa de Palma (168km)
The novelty is the Trofeo Andratx which will finish on the Mirador d'Es Colomer (Formentor), a 3.5km climb with an average gradient of around 6.5%. The climb has been used in the past: Alejandro Valverde won in 2005, Davide Bernabeu in 2006 and Thomas Dekker in 2007.
The other most demanding day should be the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, between Deia and Lluc where Michal Kwiatkowski offered his first exhibition in 2014.
The flat Trofeo Palma which usually ends in a bunch sprint, has been moved from the first to the last day. Instead, Trofeo Santanyi will open the competition. Last year Sacha Modolo won both sprint races.
