Riding under the names of Diquigiovanni and Androni Giocattoli, Gianni Savio's team has always been a regular fixture in the Tour de San Luis. The Italian coach has been team manager since 1986 and in addition to his management role, he has been national coach in Venezuela and Colombia with whom he won the time trial world championships with Santiago Botero in 2002.

Gianni Savio’s teams have always done well in San Luis. In 2008, Colombian Jose Serpa finished fourth and Carlos José Ochoa won a stage and the mountains jersey. One year later, Serpa won in Kuala Rompin and was third overall while Mattia Gavazzi added another stage win.

Serpa was close to the victory in 2010 when he was second in the GC, just 28 seconds behind Vincenzo Nibali. His teammates Alberto Loddo, twice, and Jackson Rodriguez raised their arms in victory after winning the stages to Buena Esperanza, San Luis and La Carolina.  Androni completed their best performance in the most important race in Latin America by winning the teams classification.

The 2012 edition was another splendid one good because Savio took the overall win with Serpa, who also won the Mirador del Potrero stage while Roberto Ferrari won in Daract Justo and Villa Mercedes. In 2013 Serpa finished fifth, Rubiano won the mountains jersey and Androni the teams classification. Gavazzi won another stage too.

Since then, however, the star of Androni has stopped shining in San Luis. Hence, Gianni Savio is looking to veteran Francesco Chicchi (35 years) in order to return to the former glory in Argentina. "I am happy to start the season in San Luis because it's a race that has always brought me luck," the Italian explains. "It will be my fourth participation and I hope to take a fourth stage win," he adds. Riding for Liquigas he won in Villa Mercedes in 2010 and in 2012 he was the fastest in Villa Mercedes and Juana Koslay.

While riding for Omega Pharma-Quick Step. The U23 World Champion from Zolder in 2002 has not been riding in San Luis since 2013. "I want to start in the right way and with a team that will help me the most," he explains. "Whenever I started the season in San Luis, I've had a good year. I hope that the same happens again.”

In addition to Chicchi, Androni will go to San Luis with Colombian Rodolfo Torres, one of the signings for this season. He was second overall in 2014 when he wore the Colombia colours, just 1.05 behind Daniel Diaz and ahead of Nairo Quintana. Romanian Serghei Ţvetcov and Italians Davide Vigano, Marco Frapporti and Daniele Ratto, the surprising stage winner of the Vuelta a Espana mountain stage to La Collada de la Gallina in 2013, complete the Androni team in the tenth edition of the Argentinean race.
