Juan Pablo Pino, manager of the newly-founded PinoRoad team, is hoping to upgrade the team to Pro Continental level, and to contend in Grand Tours in future, according to BiciCiclismo.
The PinoRoad team, based in Chile, will have an European base in Murcia, Spain, as well as four Spanish riders, including Pablo Urtasun and J.J. Oroz, designated as team captains. Both came from the disbanded Euskaltel-Euskadi team.
And the Chilean-based team will be a long term investment, according to Pino, as he says, "It's a long-term commitment, for three years, until 2016, but I hope it will be four or five years. Sponsors can not confirm it at the moment until we have the permission, either to the ProConti level or to Grand tour, but there're two major companies in Chile that give us full support to grow."
The Chilean team's main objectives for 2014 is not decided yet, but Pino anticipates that "The leadership responsibility and the results should come from the two veterans, Urtasun and Oroz. The other guys are young Chileans and will mainly learn in our first year, to be more settled and start to grow. They want to become professional cyclists and they have to prove it but there's time available for them. "he explains, as development for Chilean cycling is also an important goal for the team.
