The fast wheels did not miss the appointment with the sprint on the Swiss roads in the 7th stage (Biel-Dudingen, 164,6 km) and among them Davide Cimolai succeded in delivering a very good performance.

The course was flat, except for the hilly final part, but Lampre-Merida supported the Italian rider and helped him to be in the front positions when the peloton was chasing the World Champion Kwiatkowski whose attack was neutralized in the approach to the sprint.

Cimolai followed the wheel of Sagan and he responded to the acceleration of the Slovakian rider when he tried to react to the sprint by Kristoff: Cimolai succeded in crossing the finish line in 3rd position, just behind the winner Kristoff and Sagan and beating Van Avermaet and Démare.

The Italian rider had good feedbacks concerning his condition in view of the Tour de France and he realized that he can be competitive against the top sprinters in the world.

Earlier this year Cimolai won the Trofeo Laigueglia and a similar uphill sprint in Paris-Nice.
