It is a magic period for Sonny Colbrelli and the whole Bardiani team. In fact today the young rider has conquered the GP Industria & Commercio di Prato (185.8km), making a stunning one-two after yesterday victory in Memorial Pantani.
This new success came after a strong work by the Italian squad that bodes well for the next Road World Championship in Ponferrada of Sunday 28th, where with Colbrelli there will be Edoardo Zardini, also him in Prato with the Italian jersey.
The race presented two different circuits a first with Carmignano climb for three laps and the second close to the finish line, with Rocca di Montemurlo uphill to cover six times.
During the first km a large breakaway of 11 men pulled away with behind the Italian Team to manage the peloton. The gap was always under control and during the first lap of the final circuit nine escapees were caught. Only two, Van Rensburg (MTN) and Baugnies (WGG) stayed in front, but their attack ended with 2km to go when a selected group of 40 riders bridged.
The Italian train composed by Aru, Visconti and Zardini led out Sonny Colbrelli really well and Bardiani – CSF Pro Team rider with a superb sprint in the middle of the road won clearly the race, ahead Sbaragli (MTN) and Napolitano (WGG).
”I’m really happy for this second success in-a-row. Win with the italian jersey is always special. Thanks to Italian Coach Cassani that called me for the race and my teammates, excluded Zardini, were the first time that race all together. See riders like Nibali, Visconti and Aru worked for me has been a honour. I think today we showed a strong cohesion that will give us more confidence for the World Champ of next Sunday,” Sonny Colbrelli said to the Bardiani website.
