Sonny Colbrelli confirmed he is ready for the upcoming Road World Championship today after winning the  Memorial Pantani in Cesenatico, sprinting ahead of a group of 50 riders that emerged at the end of a 189.8km.

For the young rider it is the 3rd season win, achieved thanks to another superb teamwork. While for Bardiani – CSF Pro Team it’s the 11th victory of 2014.

As happened the last years the first key moment of the race was inside the initial circuit with Montevecchio uphill to cover three times. Indeed during the last passage 5 riders attacked that were joined by others during the following descent, composing in front a leading group of 20 men with inside Sonny Colbrelli and Manuel Bongiorno.

The peloton was behind 57 seconds, started a long pursuit and bridged only with 15km to go. When it happened Bongiorno went in front of the bunch to deliver Colbrelli in the final sprint. Thanks to a fast pace anyone was able to attack and the Memorial Pantani finished with a sprint about 50 riders.

Inside the last km Selvaggi (WGG) tried a solo attack, Colbrelli was fast to take his wheel and with 200 meters to go he jumped out and went to win. Behind Bole (VFN) took the 2nd place and Chinello (AZT) the 3rd.

”After the second place in Tre Valli Varesine, today I was really focused to win. Zardini and Pirazzi before the final part Bongiorno made a stunning work for me. About last km I waited someone that launched the sprint and when Selvaggi moved I took his wheel. With 200 meters go I went out and got the win. In this moment my shape is really good, this victory was so important for my morale and for the journey to Ponferrada,” Sonny Colbrelli said.

”We wanted the win and we got it. This morning I saw the right concentration and all the guys have made a positive performance. In the last part of the race despite only Sonny and Manuel were in front, they however raced in a perfect way. About Colbrelli he is still young but he’s already a garantuee for this type of hilly race. When he’s supported by a brilliant shape like today, it’s really hard to beat,” Mirko Rossato, Sport Director said to the Bardiani website.
