The sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia ended with a bad crash of Daniele Colli, caused by a spectator. Colli was always aware and has been diagnosed with a broken left humerus. He will be operated today.

Daniele Colli was the unlucky main character of the stage after the accident in the sprint a few meters from the finish that left him with a broken arm. 

“I’m ok, I want to assure all my friends and fans that I am still here. About the accident I remember that I was hit by something when I was doing the sprint and then I was on the ground with my arm in an unnatural position. I was really scared because I didn’t feel the arm," he said.

General Manager Francesco Pelosi is strongly frustrated: “The beauty of cycling is that it is a sport in which the public is really close to their champions and this is the magic. But for this reason, the public and the fans must be the first security guards and secure the safety of the riders. The person who did this to Daniele is unconcerned by the safety of the riders and does a lot of bad to a sport that does not want to put barriers between the public and the riders. Due to this accident, Daniele will be operated, will have a a two-month break and will not be able to finish this Giro d’Italia for which he worked hard for 8 month s. The barriers have to protect riders must not be passed by any fan."

It was a bitter end to a stage where the Nippo-Vini Fantini team had been working well with a long break with two #orangeblue riders (Grosu and Malaguti) and witha good performance by Colli who felt good in the sprint and was ready to fight.
