Colombian National Team coach Carlos Mario Jaramillo communicated on Saturday September 12th his final selections for the Colombian line-up who will be taking in the UCI Road World Championships in Richmond, USA (September 19-27, 2015), and Colombia-Coldeportes features significantly in the list, with no less than four riders selected.
Carlos Julian Quintero, Alex Cano and Edwin Avila will be Claudio Corti’s team representatives in the Elite road race, taking stage on Sunday September 27th on a 259,2 km distance. Forty-eight hours earlier, Sebastian Molano will line-up for the 162,8 km Under 23 road event.
Both events will be run on a technical 16,2 km circuit, whose main difficulty will be a 200-meter climb on cobbles.
Carlos Julian Quintero makes his second appearance in the Elite World Championship, after showing up significantly in last year’s edition in Ponferrada with a long breakaway. Alex Cano will make his third start in the event, while Edwin Avila will take in his first Road Championship after featuring in many editions of the Track World Championships, winning two gold medals in the points race in 2011 and 2014. 20-year-old Sebastian Molano will be taking part in the Under 23 championship for the second year in a row, after racing last year’s event in Ponferrada.
Carlos Julian Quintero was clearly excited by the National Team Coach’s nod:
“I feel happy and confident in a great leader like Rigoberto Uran. I believe this selection represents a vote of confidence by the National coach, as well as a reward for my consistency over the year. I will be looking to play my role in the best possible way, and help Rigoberto to reach the top spots in the classification.”
Also Alex Cano was excited about his appointment:
“I will bring on my pride, responsibility and maximum commitment for one of the greatest Nations in cycling nowadays,” Alex Cano declared, “that deserves a great performance in this event. I will be looking to give my best for our leader Rigoberto Uran.”
Finally Edwin Avila is very motivated about his first time experience with the National team.
“I am very happy to be able to race a road Championship for the first time, it is a great opportunity,” Edwin Avila said. “I feel motivated, and looking forward to give the best in the upcoming races with Colombia-Coldeportes to get to the Worlds in the best possible shape.”
“It is good to have another opportunity in this very important year for me – Sebastian Molano told. “We will be putting in our maximum effort to try give Colombia a great joy, with whatever rider of our selection.”
GM Claudio Corti is satisfied with the number of Colombia-Coldeportes riders participating in the World’s.
“Obviously, it feels good to have four riders selected for the Worlds,” General Manager Claudio Corti stated, “and I am confident they will make a good work in their respective races. For a team like ours, representing the Colombian movement around the World for the whole season, bringing on a significant piece of the Colombian selection is a reason for great pride.”
